Auto BMPs

Oil, grease, anti-freeze, and other toxic automotive fluids can be picked up by rain water and swept into storm drains.  This polluted water flows untreated into the local waterways.  Follow these simple tips to help prevent storm water pollution and protect the health of your family and community.

  • Check your vehicle for leaks and spills and make repairs.

  • Clean up spilled fluids with an absorbent material like kitty litter or sand and dispose of the absorbent material properly.

  • Use a commercial car wash or wash your car on an unpaved surface to minimize the amount of dirty, soapy water flowing into the storm drain.

Recycle automotive fluids at your local Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
